Mike Lynch has been shaping surfboards for well over 10 years and in the earlier stages of his career, he needed enough versatility to be able to dress for his hobbies (most of which are messy, like shaping) but also be sharp and presentable looking in Global Fashion meetings. He developed the Cunningham Coat (originally The Creators Coat) to be his coverall in the shaping bay. It turned out to be just as rad in the streets as it was useful in keeping him clean of shaping foam and so we started making them in all of his favorite fabrics.

In the early 1900’s, craftsmen of all sorts started bringing their skills to America in hopes of chasing the American Dream - not aware of it, they also brought their style and cultural distinction, particularly in clothing, to America as well. We are particularly enamored with the French Painters who came over to the USA and wore coveralls, chore coats and dungarees over their fine suiting to work their blue collar jobs. They took such pride in their work and their presentation and we respect it. A chore coat, similar to ours, was an everyday necessity for a well-respected person in the blue collar space. Some years later, an American Photographer named Bill Cunningham made the chore coat famous via his one of a kind street fashion - our coat is an ode to the legend, Bill and the culture he represented in making these blue collar wares, fashion worthy.
